Brian Weir creates furniture in his studio
located in South Dartmouth, Massachusetts.
Brian’s
woodworking career evolved from his experience as a boat carpenter. A desire
to refine his woodworking skills and design vocabulary led him to the Center
for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport Maine. Upon completion of an
intensive program, he returned to Dartmouth, filled with enthusiasm, and
immediately set up shop.
The design and creation of contemporary furniture is Brian’s main focus. He
achieves a balance between aesthetics and functionality within each piece.
Traditional joinery and modern woodworking techniques are employed to assure
beauty, character, and quality construction. Woods are carefully chosen to
enhance each design and accentuate the beauty of the wood. Brian constructs
each piece individually using care and expert craftsmanship. Often, one may
feel the subtle characteristics left by the hand plane, chisel, or spoke
shave, all of which are the mark of the craftsman. These qualities culminate
in the creation of elegant furnishings that will last for generations.
Brian’s work is now displayed in national shows, local art festivals,
magazines, design journals, and private collections. |
